Robert Cooper is a multidisciplinary artist whose drawings and paintings move through the energy of Expressionism, the melodrama of the Baroque, and the saturation of Disney backgrounds. His confident mark-making of muscular lines and graphic certainty give rise to works filled with the warped images of animals he sees inhabiting us all, creating unfolding stories populated with the shapes of creatures and the dizzying speed of contemporary life. On his paper and canvas, the lines he accumulates are a gestural communication without words – they are connections to an inner field of emotion; Robert’s sense of comfort gleaned from the unknown.
Robert has worked on two notable collaborations ARE THEY ALL YOURS, with Polly Morgan at Hix (2019) and FUGUE, with Kate Dunn at The Tub (2021). He has exhibited in multiple group shows with London based galleries including GUTS Gallery, Lungley Gallery, Subsidiary Projects and Collective Ending. His debut solo show ACTAEON was shown at The Bomb Factory Art Foundation in London (2021). Robert is currently a resident at the Sarabande Foundation in Haggerston.
